Étonnants Voyageurs: an incredible event for us!

A few weeks ago, I learned of the possibility of taking part in the event organized by the association Les Étonnants Voyageurs in Saint-Malo in Brittany. A stand for Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon! Amazing! it was necessary to mark the blow!

Two (and a half) years of existence, 10 books published and very little presence on the stand with this nasty pandemic and the geographical distance of the publishing house from Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon. Things had to change in order to establish the works of the young publishing house.

Archipel Développement, represented in mainland France by Marie-Laure Lemoine, attends the Salon des Étonnants Voyageurs every year to showcase authors from the archipelago, which are often self-published; but not since the pandemic. For this long-awaited revival, Marie-Laure invites the books of Éditions Mon autre France to Stand 106.

I had to mark the occasion with unique gifts. With the publication of the book The Archipelago of the Free French by Xavier Fréquant and Yassir Guelzim, illustrated by the tattoo artist Julien Robin, we have shown our attachment to the duty of memory; and we had an incredible gift: badges embroidered in 1942 in the Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon sewing workshop (there is a photo of the workshop in the book), found in the trunk of one of the Committed Volunteers, at her daughter's home in Normandy.

What a priceless gift! A collector's item!

Cleaning of embroidered patches of Free France with La Croix de Lorraine

Careful cleaning to give them a makeover after 80 years!

All that remained was to remove the smells of years and humidity, to protect them and revive them...

I wanted to personalize these gifts and so I opted for the card included with the purchase of the book during the Salon des Étonnants Voyageurs in Saint-Malo.

They will be available from Friday to Sunday evening only.

If there are any left, I'll bring some to Saint-Pierre-et-Miquelon week 23 and if there are still some left, they will be at a book fair with the authors on June 25 in Metz. They will not be sold. They are included with the purchase of a book in the salon. I don't take the risk of posting them.

If you are reading this and you know enthusiasts, history buffs, share the article because of course, the stock is not huge and there won't be any others, unless you find another treasure in another trunk...

See you STAND 106 at the Salon des Étonnants Voyageurs in Saint-Malo!
